The title song - Wo hamsafar tha

Music has become one of the ways to express our feelings emotions and sorrow nowadays since all sorts of music has become a part of everybody’s life. With a song like ‘wo Hamsafar tha’ it showcases emotions of the actors better than what lines could have done for them. Sometimes the dialogues of the actors don’t have the effect and intensity that is intended and it helps people create affiliations with the song.
For the drama Hamsafar the role of music therefore is vital.  The song helps explain the entire story of the drama. It shows us how two people were not totally separated but they were problems between them ( ke hoop chaun ka alam tha, judayi na thi) There is an aspect of love that remains but somehow it is just not connected. The song is being played throughout the drama with a specific timing and a specific line for a different scene. Every time it brings the viewer back to the main theme of the drama.
It has been written down beautifully by Naseer Turabi and extraordinary by QB is what makes the song stir one’s soul. I’m going to discuss some of the lyrics of the song that I feel are particularly important.
Woh humsafar tha…Haan Woh Humsafar Tha….
Woh Humsafar tha, magar us say humnawaayi na thi …..
Every time Khirad and Ashar are shown spending a good time with each other the phrase ‘wo Hamsafar tha’ comes up. Hamsafar means your soul mate, the person to whom your soul has connected and there is a feeling of happiness and Ashar and Khirad have both experienced the feeling by being with one another. However, circumstances have forced the two to part ways. The song reflects the feelings of both Ashar and Khirad but it is more like the sound of the female protognosist trying to assure herself of the belief that he was her soulmate.
Bicharne walay mei sab kuch tha, bewafyi na thi.
It’s like a continuous reminder to the viewers that Khirad did not break Ashar’s trust and that she didn’t do “amanat mei khayanat.” She was sincere all along and it was nothing but a misunderstanding on Ashar’s part.
Ke dhoop chaaon ka aalam raha, judaai na thi….

There is a scene in the drama when these lyrics are being sung by QB and Khirad is shown to be opening a window and her eyes are swollen and wet with tears. The opening of the window is showcasing her letting go of the suffocation and easing down the emotions that have been built up within her. So the lyrics of the song are used as an effective tool to fill out the moments of silence in the drama where the scenes carry more meaning and intensity than just a few lines being said by the actors.
