Humsafar is the trademark which restored the long lost
glory of Pakistani Cinema. The most interesting part in Humsafar is the diverse
roles of women. Sara epitomizes the woman of today; she is a confident educated
woman with an established career. Khirad on the other hand is the traditional
eastern women who although earns for her family but never circumvents the
spheres of her house. What I found most juxtaposing was the fact that how
despite of being so independent and confident Sara idolized Asher unlike
Khirad. Although Khirad was termed as the ‘choti
soch wali larki’, Sara turned out to be the most insecure woman, the
subject of whose passions and compassions was just one man and one man alone. Keeping
aside the unnecessary emphasis on ‘Khirad’s
Khuddari’ throughout the first few episodes, she is a homely woman who
every man wants to be with. She knows how to appear publicly but does not
believe in socializing. She may not have the hi-fi degrees to support her
credentials but her mathematical skills speak for themselves. What I found most interesting was how despite of lacking everything we consider to make a woman secure and confident, she was secure and confident. This is the narrative which the drama is trying to promote.
