Bushra's Missed Blog

  • One of the oft-recurring themes in Dhoop Kinaray is that of love and its various nuances. Love is not just something that can be defined on a relative scale. People may have their own definitions of what love is and all that it constitutes but there is a socially driven definition of love as well that, according to Hasina Moeen, is the more acceptable one. On a spectrum, love would range from utter selfless buffoonery to what, Zoya referred to as Dukandari, that happens to be the extremely pragmatic, bordering on materialistic, approach that is discredited at various points, directly and indirectly in the drama’s narrative. This post will show how Hasina Moeen’s endorsed version of love falls somewhere in the middle. According to Dhoop Kinaray, the nearest to ideal conception of love would be the one that is embodied by Zoya Ali Khan in her feelings for Dr. Ahmar. This claim can be made, for given the drama’s agenda of social reform, Zoya’s love triumphs at the end. She does not only manage to snag Ahmar as her trophy but the simultaneously occurring defeat of Sheena’s version of love can also be seen as an inconspicuous endorsement of Zoya’s brand of passion. Zoya’s love is not half as easy to quantify as that of Sheena for it does not have the same consistency, nor the same flavor. However, it can be said that at least, its not overly pragmatic, for Zoya does not seem to show any hesitancy in giving over the property that was bequeathed to her, for Ahmar’s sake. Moreover, she also does not seem interested in Ahmar’s material possessions or materialism in general and her liking for Ahmar seems to emerge singularly out of her admiration for his personality traits. However, her love also does not seem to be completely naïve, for she does not show any outward emotions in the majority of the cases towards Ahmar and her love for him is silent and dignified. All of this seems to be in line with the sort of love Hasina Moeen wants to triumph in society and in order to preface that, she has it triumph in the drama as well.
