husband and wife relation

I would like to talk about the sort of relation that existed between husband and wife back in the old times. Gul Bahar asks for a substantial amount of money from Shah Jee, her rich husband, and he does not cross question her. She just says: Shah jee mujhe kuch paison ki zarurat hai
and Shah Jee is more than happy to hear how she has demanded something and an amount as big as Rs 20000 carries no significance compared to the value of his wife and her standing in his life.

It shows how much trust husbands had in their wives back in the old times and how trust was a very important and valued characteristic of a relationship. The wife is extremely particular that she does not let the trust break by trying to get rid of the man who is blackmailing her continuously. The position of and the purity of the female is seen as out in the open and there is nothing hidden or implicit. All women are expected to be sincere to their husbands and maintaining the family name that their husbands have been given them. Women on the other hand, cannot even question the activities of their husbands or get any extra information of what is going on with their husband's work or politics in this case. Her sole purpose is to stay within the domestic sphere and look after household matters.

If we talk about the modern time dramas, husbands are shown to be keeping a check on their wives as if they are up to something and so is the case with women. If a woman asks his husband for money he will ask her multiple questions most typically like: kia karna hai tumne itne paison ka? and so on...
Women too are seen to be interfering in the lives of their husbands, questioning them all the time.
So the drama basically shows how the relation of man and woman is evolving with time and how changes in the society have led to a change in the roles of these people played within the context of husband and wife.
